How to Beat Hard Levels and Rage Traps in Platformers

Trap platformers and rage games such as Level Devil and Trap Devil Fury test patience, focus and reaction time. Their appeal is a clever contradiction: the level looks simple, but it hides obstacles that need you to think outside the box and react within fractions of a second.
1. Think like the trap designer: expectation is your first enemy
In normal platformers, the obvious path is usually the right one. Trap games exploit your habits:
- Rush traps: a tempting goal pulls you straight toward it, and spikes drop from the ceiling the moment you land.
- Door traps: walking up to the exit without checking the area can make the door run away, or explode to reveal the real door somewhere else.
- Strategy: don't rush. On your first attempt at any level, move slowly and test the edges of the trigger zones before committing.
2. Master the jump: coyote time and jump buffering
Well-designed trap games include forgiveness mechanics that you can use to your advantage. In Trap Devil Fury:
- Coyote time: you get 6 frames after walking off a ledge to still jump. This lets you cover more distance across gaps than you might expect.
- Jump buffering: if you press jump up to 6 frames before you land, the game remembers the input and jumps as soon as your feet touch the ground. This saves you from deaths caused by a split-second delay.
3. Handle gravity flips and reversed controls
Some of the hardest moments come when the rules of the level suddenly change, for example in the gravity and reversed-control levels (levels 6, 8 and 18):
- When your controls are reversed (right becomes left), don't try to think it through step by step. Focus on the character and where you are looking, not on your fingers.
- When gravity flips, remember that falling now means going up. Always check that the ceiling is clear of spikes before jumping recklessly.
4. Summary
Dying in a platformer isn't failure. It is part of learning the trap map. Every death reveals a little more of the trap network until you master the level and feel the satisfaction of reaching the exit.
